My Reading Habits. Reading has always been an important part of my life. Since I was a child, my parents tried to awake my interest in reading since they have always read in front of me. I remember that not only them, but also my uncle, whenever they had the opportunity, gave me a book as a present. I enjoyed reading tales and fun stories for kids. When I was a teenager, I became interested in classics and I started borrowing books from the town library. That is probably the main reason why I decided to study English at university. While having a look at the photographs, I noticed that they represent different ways of reading, such as reading for pleasure, reading at school while studying, teaching reading skills and including the new technologies such as the ebook. One of the most important problems nowadays, is that students consider reading as a compulsory activity and they do not enjoy it. I think that, rather than making them read some literary texts that are not close to their interests, we should give them the opportunity of choosing what they want to read and reflect on the texts using more innovative techniques. This lack of reading habits can also been observed in their difficulties in reading comprehension and also in written expression. As for my reading habits, I love reading at night when I go to bed but on holidays, I read whenever I have the opportunity. I choose titles both in English and in Spanish and it depends on the text and its complexity. In English, my favourite genre is the adventure novel but I also read magazines, webpages and blogs while searching for new ideas to use in my classes. On the other hand, I prefer Spanish to read more complex texts and the classics. Anyway, it depends on many factors and most of the times, on my feelings at the moment of selecting the next book.
